He looked so sweet and silly, and she didn’t have the heart to tell him he really couldn’t sing. She couldn’t hold back the laughter.
He sang the rest of the song, and when he was finished, he placed a kiss on her lips that she’d never forget, passionately nibbling on her lips and sliding his tongue into her surprised mouth.
Her heart rolled over in her chest and stopped. How could she fight it? She’d lost everything, but she didn’t have to lose love.
“I don’t know what to say. How do you expect me to forget everything that’s happened?” Should she take a chance? She looked into his eyes to see kindness, love, compassion, and pain. She wanted to forgive him and end her own pain as well.
“Ana, I was wrong about so many things. But I’ve left my job. I resigned, and I want to build a life here on Mimosa Key with you. I’m going to open a sunset cruise for couples at night and have a fishing charter during the day. And I want to help you get your sportswear off the ground. I know we can do it together.”
Confused, and feeling like the sun had made her delirious, she didn’t know what to say. “Where will we get the money?”
She desperately wanted to believe in the dream, but wasn’t sure she could make that leap of faith. His golden hair gleamed in the sun, and his blue eyes sparkled like gemstones filled with excitement. For a second, her mind thought she was dreaming.
He looked at her like she had two heads. “I’m a millionaire, of course.”
“What do you mean?”
“Didn’t I mention my father owns Donovan International? He’s a real estate tycoon.”
“But you were a detective.” She was worried he was having some type of heat stroke.
He looked at her like she was the one who’d lost her mind. “I decided I didn’t want to go into the family business, but that doesn’t mean I gave up my share.”
He wanted to help her, and he loved her. Could she take a chance? Should she?
“Luciana Talarico, you’re the smartest, funniest woman I know, and I love that you like to work out and want to design your own line of sportswear, and I know I can’t live without you. Will you please marry me? Or, at the very least, be mine forever? I promise to help you design sportswear and take you out for sunset cruises and dance with you all the days of my life.”
Speechless, with tears in her eyes, she knew there was no way she could turn down an offer like that from the man she loved.
“Yes, Noah Donovan. I love you. I’ll be your wife, and I’m going to hold you to it.”
